2 Dollar Shoes

from Jimmy B and The Twilights by Jim Bouchard

/

about

This is a song I wrote in 1994 or 5 when I used to play way more bad banjo, but it was a fun sort of semi-clawhammer style ditty, that I recorded for my first CD toots Rambles (available here) with a fiddle and mandolin and harmonica, and lately I've been performing it with my band The Beauty Way in a more country shuffle style like this. We haven't gotten around to recording it so this is my demo. It's not exactly it but we have this sort of arrangement.

lyrics

Two Dollar Shoes
Jim Bouchard

Verse1:
These two dollar shoes barely fit my feet
I'd used them for a while to get me where I want to be
I got a long way to go but somehow I'll push on through
tell me what else can I do...

Verse2:
As these icy winds blow all around these streets
we're circling the wagons but we're not admitting defeat
we got a long way to go but together we'll push on through
tell me what else can you do...

Bridge:
We can't sit on our hands anymore
Just because the future's not all that sure

Verse3:
Should we run? (no we shouldn't run) Should we hide? (no we shouldn't hide)
Should we hold our heads in our hands as the tears well up in our eyes?
We got a long we to go, just gotta push on through
Tell me what else can we do...

Bridge:
We can't sit on our hands anymore
Just because the future's not all that sure

Verse4:
These two dollar shoes suit me fine
It took me a while to find them in my size
Been walking all day but I'm not blue
Knowing I'm doing what I must do
What else can I do?
What else can we do?
What else can we do?
